Transformers (Original Series) - Seasons 1-4 (DVD)

To coincide with the release of the big screen Transformers bonanza, Revenge Of The Fallen, Metrodome have re-released all four seasons of the original Transformers TV series, complete with new packaging and a considerably lower price tag (RRP £12.99, though ASDA were recently selling them for the bargain price of £7 - see the price comparison box below for more great prices!).

Released as four separate box sets (Season 1, then the mammoth Season 2, which is split into two box sets, and finally Season 3 and the very short Season 4, which are contained in one box set), the collection follows a race of giant, transforming robots from the planet Cybertron, who crash land on Earth in the search for new energy to save their planet. While on Earth, the race of robots known as the Autobots (led by the courageous Optimus Prime), form an alliance with a few select humans, while the evil Decepticons (fronted by the diabolical Megatron), have plans of their own.

For anyone craving a potent shot of nostalgia, Transformers is of course an essential purchase. Remaining one of the most beloved animated shows of the 80s, all four series’ still manage to retain a certain charm, and while a little rough around the edges (complete with some seriously iffy dialogue and a fair few episode duds among the pack), the show boasts enough retro action and drama to warrant the trip down Memory Lane.

Overall Verdict: A satisfying shot of nostalgia.
