First News On Pixar's Up Blu-ray Features

Possible UK extras appear even before cinema release

Disney/Pixar's Up might not be appearing in UK cinemas until October 9th, which means it won't be on DVD and Blu-ray over here until the beginning of next year, but a selection of special features have already been certified by the BBFC, suggesting what we might be getting in the extras department of the home entertainment release.

At the moment there's no official word on whether these will or won't be a part of the UK DVD and Blu-ray releases, but the fact they've already been certified is highly suggestive that they will indeed be on next year's digital discs. So far the following features have gone through the BBFC:

Adventure Is Out There (21 mins)
Up - Promo Montage  (5 min 34 secs)
Helium - Dugs's Special Mission (Short Film) (4 mins 28 secs)
The Many Endings Of Muntz (4 mins 41 secs)

BLU-RAY BONUS:
Composing For Characters - Michael Giacchino Scores Up (7 mins 18 secs)
Balloons And Flight Featurette (6 mins 8 secs)
Geriatric Hero Featurette (6 mins 6 secs)
Married Life Featurette (8 mins 48 secs)

As we say, there's a possibility we may end up with a completely different list of features, but if this is what we get, it looks like it could be a good disc, especially on Blu-ray. Now all we need is for the film to finally reach cinemas!

Why do Pixar do this?? Seems like every other major movie studio can manage near simultaneous worldwide releases for their movies - and they generally have actual people in them who have to jet around the world attending the various premieres - so why do Pixar insist on staggering release dates so much? You can be pretty sure that by the time Up is finally released in UK cinemas, rips of the Region 1 DVD will be widely available to download online, and I've got to be honest, I'll have no qualms at all in downloading it

It does seem rather pointless, and in this day and age there really isn't much point in it. All other studios are moving international release dates closer together because of the piracy problem, so quite why Pixar feels the need to spread it out is difficult to tell. It is their first 3D movie, so maybe they think that's enough to convince people to go to the cinema, but other than that it does seem pretty pointless.
