Many thought that when his ranting phone conversations with his ex became public, Mel Gibson's career in front of the camera was pretty much over - and indeed, with virtually nobody going to see The Beaver, which he stars in (but was made before his career went in the toilet again), and which came out in the US a couple of weeks ago, there's been little to make people think any different.
However now he was a ray of hope, as he is in talks to join director Brad Mirman's heist comedy Sleight of Hand, starring opposite Kiefer Sutherland, Gérard Depardieu and Thomas Jane, according to Variety.
Giancarlo Giannini, Jon Lovitz and Johnny Hallyday are also set to join the film , which centres on a bunch of bungling burglars in Paris who inadvertently steal a rare gold coin belonging to a gangster.
There's no news on what role Gibson might play, but being part of an ensemble may be a smart move on his part. Nobody will want to rest an entire movie on his shoulders at the moment, but he may be able to slip back in if he's just part of a group. Production begins in July.
